In early June, Samuel learned he could climb up on chairs...BY HIMSELF! ANY CHAIR! Nothing like having a good panic attack first thing in the morning when you find your child standing on the desk chair in the middle of the living room! One second he was playing happily with his books on the ground, next thing I know...up on the chair! We have spent many, many, many, many hours teaching him to sit down properly on the chairs. So much, that the boy who doesn't say much can say the phrase, "Butt down please." Last week Eric walked in the living room and found Samuel standing on the couch, Samuel looked at Eric and said, "Da, butt down please?" A firm yes, followed by Eric coming to the kitchen laughing was what happened.
With this new found freedom though, the possibilities are endless! He can push chairs to wherever he wants to go, and climb up and get whatever he wants! His absolute favorite though is to climb on our desk chair and "use" the computer.
This has been a hard one to deal with, how do you explain to a toddler he can't touch the computer when we all use it so frequently. So we came up with a solution...Microsoft Word. Samuel just loves to press the keys and play with the mouse since it lights up. So we open up Word and let him go at it! It's been a good idea...a few weeks ago he deleted all the icons on the desktop, and the week after that he had messages boxes up that I didn't even know what they meant, so Microsoft Word it is!
Samuel is so funny when he types. He is SO serious and intense while he is typing. We've decided that's he's making a list of grievences and probably sending them to my parents in Virginia in hopes of them helping him out.
Samuel's Word documents resemble this:
asdhfaiuyset sdyt8asihts a8se7t89 jkhuyrsx uiahsdfaisf.
But we translate them into: Granny B and Grandpa, Please help me. Mommy says we are going to wean and I have to start eating more vegetables. And I have to take a bath every night. Please, send help.
Love Samuel
I guess kids really are growing up in a world of technology, so we are trying to embrace Samuel's love for the computer and we are keeping our fingers crossed that Samuel is the next Steve Jobs. We'll keep you posted.

Ha ha that is so cute. I actually have saved my super duper old laptop for Lydia to play with and destroy when the time comes. The children today really are tech savy. I saw a three year old at the store working her mother's iphone and playing games on it. I also have friends whose children know how to use their ipods to watch movies and play games at super young ages. It's just crazy!
