We'll...we survived! A week at the beach with a 7-month old! I was a little hesitant when my parents invited us to go to Virginia Beach for a week. I couldn't fathom a 7 hour car trip with a 7-month old, or how Samuel would react to the heat, ocean, or anything else! And I certainly was nervous about the sleeping situation...which is, Samuel still doesn't sleep through the night! I didn't want to make everyone exhausted on their vacation! But a week at the beach is a week at the beach, so we packed our swimsuits, sunscreen, and about a million toys and set out for Samuel's first vacation! And he was AMAZING!
It was a very very long drive for us to get to Virginia Beach. Map quest said 6 hours...we knew better. We left the house before 9am and didn't arrive until close to 6pm. Samuel grew restless about every 2 hours, so we made a stop every 2 hours!!! Which turned out to be a lot of fun too! We visited the Winchester Farmers Market, a McDonald's in Fredericksburg, and a lovely Walmart in the tidewater area. The toughest part was a back up at the Virginia Beach tunnel in which Samuel cried for 45 minutes...but we all survived!

A week at the beach was just what Eric and I needed! It was so peaceful, relaxing and fun to see my family! It also gave me a much needed break because my family was more than willing to watch the Samster while we went to the beach, out to dinner, mini-golfing, shopping, or just for a walk down the beach!
Samuel is still a little on the "attached" side to his mommy...but this week at the beach did him some good. He's a big fan of his Auntie C, who came to the beach totally prepared with a Little People Farm and School set, which he LOVES. After a few days of mommy and daddy visiting the beach he got over his attachment issues and would calm down and play with the "nanny's" as my mom and sister referred to themselves!
Samuel also got a little beach time in as well. We took him to the beach early in the morning, and he enjoyed putting his feet in the water, watching the seagulls and crabs, and he had a thing for the beach umbrella! He also liked putting his feet in the sand. Of course, my favorite part was dressing Samuel is super cute swim trunks, hats, and t-shirts! He didn't get a single trunk wet, but it was still a lot of fun!!!
It was hard to come back to Maryland after such a fun week at the beach. But we packed our things and headed back home...a week full of fun memories and rest!!!!
